Solid Oak
I want to build a solid oak table, how can i do so without it warping or cracking?
I don`t want to use veneer
When doing glue ups for a Table Top the lumber must have been dried to less than 15% moisture content. Then you need to joint the face of the wood. After that joint one edge, then rip other edge parallel, make one pass of ripped edge over joiner to remove saw marks. Prep each board in this manner then thickness plane for consistency. Edge glue boards together lining them up as good as possible and clamp them tight. I recommend Tightbond weather proof wood glue (the blue label). Some people add biscuits, dowels, or splines, but if the wood mates perfectly they really aren't needed. The boards need to be alternated, growth rings down, growth rings up, growth rings down, growth rings up, as determined by the end grain. If the board do not mate across entire edge by just holding them together, re-joint edge. If you force any gaps together using clamps the joint will split apart later. This is for all grain going parallel, cross grain situations are different and trickier because of the lumbers natural expansion and contraction.
