Food Steamer
Would you recomend a food steamer?
My new years resolution is for me and my family to acheive a more healthy lifestyle. Because I'm a working mom with a husband who works at night and two young children, taking hours to prepare a meal isn't really convenient. I thought a food steamer might be a great solution for quick, healthy dinners! However, I have never even used one, and don't know much about them. Would you guys recomend them and does anyone have any comments or suggestions about what kind to buy or what to make it in! Any input appreciated!
Absolutely! Steaming is a wonderful way to prepare healthy foods. You can spend a lot of money on a steamer, but will get the same results with a cheaper one. I bought a cheap (non-electric)steamer at Wal-Mart years ago and still use it all the time. It is just a covered pan with a steamer insert that I place directly on a burner on my stove, and it does a great job. I love it for vegetables because you don't have to drain them after cooking. Sometimes I even heat up tortillas in it, because the steam keeps the extras soft and warm until you've finished your meal.
