3 Types of One Cup Coffee Makers - Manual Presses, Automated Drip and Pod Style
One Cup coffee makers are very convenient in many ways. It is economical in that you aren't wasting money by making a huge pot of coffee, only to drink one or two cups from it - and it is also sensible for households where one person likes one type of coffee and the other prefers something totally different. These types of machines typically come in three distinctly different styles, the manual presses, automated Pod Coffee makers, and automatic Drip Coffee makers.
Manual presses: Manual coffee percolators will require you to measure your coffee grinds and poor them into a paper filter. This is actually the most popular style Coffee Maker for the aficionados.They usually enjoy the process of grinding beans, playing with different flavors, etc For this reason, there should be a minimal learning curve associated with it. Manual presses won't require electricity to run, so they are great for camping trips and outdoor events. However you will want to keep one thing in mind - you will have to preheat your water and will need to use a certain amount of force to get the plunger down.
Automated Drip Coffee Makers: Now this type is the automatic version of the manual press. Automated units obviously require a lot less work, making them the style of choice by most households and businesses. Similar to the manual, you will need to measure the grinds and add them to the filter, but with the flip of a switch or press of one button, the machine will heat your water and start the drip.
Pod Coffee Makers: The pod coffee maker takes convenience and ease of use to the next level. There is no need for a Bean Grinder, filters or a Coffee Carafe. Simply insert the pod allow the machine to heat your water, and in less than one minute you'll have a single cup of piping hot joe. Now like anything else, with convenience comes an increase in price. The actual pods tend to be more expensive than a bag of ground beans. Not only that, but some manufacturers have designed their units to not be compatible with a wide variety of pods - or, only being compatible with one particular type. This can be very restrictive.
When deciding on which type is best for you, you will want to consider several things: machine size, options, and safety features. If you have a smaller kitchen, or limited counter space - a compact machine will obviously be the optimal unit for you. You may lean heavily towards a pod coffee maker, but remember this - you will have to purchase pods and depending on the brand, may be limited in which types your maker can use. Finally, safety features are important for any home, but especially those with small children. Look for a unit that has an automatic shut off switch. The last thing you want is a machine that will continue to warm for hours at a time, tiny fingers may be tempted to touch and burns aren't very fun!
